As part of the wider lighting scheme for a commercial refurbishment, we were commissioned to design and make a series of suspended glass globe pendant lights for the reception and lounge space.
The design intent was to create three decorative pieces that are simplistic and modern yet produce high-quality functional lighting.
Each globe-shaped, optically clear glass casing is handblown and encapsulates a sleek satin brass cylinder and frosted acrylic diffuser in the form of a glowing dome. The dome is seamlessly connected to the bottom of the cylinder that cleverly conceals a powerful and punchy LED light source and heat sink component. A brass ring and cap sit on top of the glass globe to secure everything neatly in place.
Above the reception desk a trio of the illuminated globes hang from individual ceiling roses via a satin brass fabric power cable. Positioned at contrasting heights, the pendants soften the double-height space and enhance light levels to the desk below.
In the neighbouring lounge area, two clusters of glass globes hang above meeting tables. Suspended from a surface-mounted ceiling plate, six “randomly” staggered globes echo the diagonal design language of the backdrop, while illuminating the surface below with a crisp diffused glow.
