Fayair airline lounge at Stansted airport is an elegant, serene and soothing environment for sophisticated travellers – but it needed a bold feature element to bring the room together and create a sense of opulence.

We were asked to create two lighting features for the space: one to hang above reception, and the other to hang above the lounge area itself.

Our elegantly simple (yet striking) chandeliers are made from square acrylic rods that contain miniature LED spotlights. To increase the visual interest and impact, we kept some rod faces smooth and frosted the other ones, playing with the light to create a mixture of sparkle and illuminated surfaces.

As the lounge is open 24/7, maintenance was a key concern. We ensured that the drivers were grouped together at the perimeter of the fixtures, making them easily accessible in the unlikely event that the LEDs would require replacing.
